Valley native Rachel Belman wins top artist on ArtistSignalLocal musician Rachel Belman is bringing home a $10,000 prize after taking first place in a worldwide music competition through ArtistSignal.com.
ArtistSignal, comprised of up-and-coming musicians from all genres, is a worldwide social music platform which allows listeners to vote for the Top Artist each month. At the end of every month, a grand prize of $10,000 is awarded to the artist with the most votes.
Belman, who will use the prize money to fund her third album, became the first Christian artist to win the competition and was also the first ever winner from Central California.
The Clovis native and Fresno Pacific University graduate collected 51,835 votes, holding the site’s number one spot for the entirety of the month of May and finishing more than 20,000 votes ahead of the artist in second place.
“I want to thank ArtistSignal for this incredible opportunity,” said Belman. “I couldn’t have done it without the loyal support of my fans, friends and family, as well as the Fresno and Clovis communities. Most of all I’d like to thank God. I have been blessed with the ability to write music and perform, but I never want to be the main focus. My ultimate desire is that my music would bring hope and encouragement to other people, pointing them to the ultimate hope we have in Jesus Christ.”
Belman burst onto the scene in 2010 with her first album, In Your Light, which was awarded Best Album by the Indie Music Channel, against all genres and artists from around the globe. “The Broken”, from this debut album, played on terrestrial radio throughout North America and was voted Indie Christian Song of the Year by the Indie Music Channel.
Earlier this year Belman received Best Female Contemporary Christian Artist for the third year in a row at the Indie Music Channel Awards, riding the success of her latest album The Call featuring the hit single “Believe”.
Meet RachelRachel Belman
Rachel Belman is a singer/songwriter with a desire to connect with her listeners through the lyrics and music she composes. Her interest in music began at the age of three when should would walk around the house singing songs she had heard at church and on the radio.
While still a young child, she and her best friend, Chelsea Graves, who often travels and performs with Rachel, began singing at weddings and special events. As teenagers, they began leading worship for their youth group, and whenever they were together, music was always present. They could spend hours in the pantry singing the ingredients from soup cans.
Rachel recently graduated from Fresno Pacific University with a degree in English and has now embarked on her full-time calling to share her music around the world. Her music and lyrics are a result of experiences encountered in her twenty-two years of life. She is inspired by her love for Jesus and desire to impact lives in a positive way. She says, "Love, heartache, and joy are emotions unique to our humanity and music is a gift from God, designed to affect our entire being."
As a young girl, Rachel had a desire to enter the mission field with the message of salvation through the redemptive message of her Lord. Like her grandparents, who were missionaries in Guatemala for several decades, Rachel has a heart for wounded and hurting souls around the world. In May, Rachel became an ambassador artist for Kids Alive International and shares the amazing work of this ministry when she performs or visits churches and Christian organizations. As part of their ministry, Kids Alive currently runs a home in Guatemala for abused girls. Rachel shares the impact this mission is having on these young souls as part of her message of the church’s call to touch the world at large.
Rachel recorded her first album at the age of 18. “The Broken”, from this debut album, In Your Light has played on terrestrial radio in North America and was voted Best Indie Christian Song of the Year by the Indie Music Channel. The album itself was voted Album of the Year in 2012 among all genres.
After the success of her first album, In Your Light (2010), Rachel’s latest album, The Call, was recorded in Nashville with Grammy winning producer, Mitch Dane and released in November of 2012. Among Christian artists, Mitch has produced Jars of Clay, Bebo Norman, Brandon Heath, and JJ Heller as well as many others. His work with Rachel’s angelic voice and organic sound has helped to bring immediate popularity to her new album.
After winning the Artist Signal contest in May, Rachel recorded her newest album, Hymns & Hers, with Jon Steingard of Hawk Nelson. Hymns & Hers released on October 21, 2014 and contains five traditional hymns set to contemporary instrumentals and five original songs. In it's first week, Hymns & Hers broke into the top 50 New Releases on iTunes.
